Small Business Endorses Ervin Yen for Senate

Oklahoma City, October 21, 2014—The National Federation of Independent Business, Oklahoma’s leading small-business association, has endorsed Ervin Yen for Senate in District 40.

The endorsement was made by NFIB/Oklahoma SAFE (Save America’s Free Enterprise) Trust, which is comprised exclusively of NFIB members.

“Ervin Yen understands the challenges facing the state’s small, family businesses and is the clear choice for the legislature, said Jerrod Shouse, state director of NFIB/Oklahoma.

"As the nation's leading voice for small business, we are proud to endorse Ervin Yen for State Senate. Dr. Yen understands the issues facing Oklahoma's entrepreneurs and small business owners. He will fight for lower taxes, less regulation and policies that will allow more Oklahomans to achieve the American Dream."

“We believe Ervin Yen will take a fiscally responsible approach to managing state government and support legislation that helps our small businesses grow and create jobs and puts the state back on the pathway to success.”

“I am so honored to be supported by the NFIB,” Yen said. “Small business is the cornerstone of our economic growth and I am proud to stand with those who are creating jobs and supporting our states entrepreneurs.”

The NFIB/Oklahoma SAFE Trust’s endorsement is critical to a candidate’s campaign. Small business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to go to the polls. NFIB has pledged it will activate its grassroots network on behalf of the campaign. NFIB’s political support is based on the candidates’ positions and records on small business issues.

NFIB is the nation’s leading small business association, with offices in Washington, D.C. and all 50 state capitals. Founded in 1943 as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, NFIB gives small- and independent-business owners a voice in shaping the public policy issues that affect their business. NFIB’s powerful network of grassroots activists sends its views directly to state and federal lawmakers through our unique member-only ballot, thus playing a critical role in supporting America’s free enterprise system. NFIB’s mission is to promote and protect the right of our members to own, operate and grow their businesses. More information about NFIB is available online at www.NFIB.com/newsroom.

Dr. Ervin Yen Comments on Ebola Outbreak

(October 20 – Oklahoma City)  “As I’ve been knocking doors throughout the district, one of the most common questions I get has nothing to do with politics. When people find out I’m a doctor, they want to know all about Ebola and whether or not they should be concerned. So I wanted to post something and give everyone the facts.

“Contrary to all the media hysteria, the odds of anyone in this country—even those who have been in contact with an Ebola patient—are very low. Ebola is spread person-to-person through direct contact, usually when coming in contact with an infected person’s body fluids.

“The disease is reaching epidemic proportions in West Africa (more than 3,000 deaths and counting) for a variety of reasons. First, this outbreak is affecting more urban areas where people live in close quarters and are more likely to come into contact with an infected person. Second, the health care workers there often do not have access to gloves, eye goggles and other protective equipment. And finally, some African cultural rituals involve washing deceased bodies in preparation for funeral, increasing the number of people coming into contact with fluids from the dead body.

“The risk of an Ebola outbreak in this country is very low. I certainly would not plan travel to West Africa right now and health care workers must definitely take extra precautions. Be vigilant and follow all the things you would do during, say, a flu outbreak (practice good hygiene, avoid contact with anyone running a fever, avoid handling clothing or needles that have come in contact with an infected person, etc.)

“But you cannot catch Ebola through the air, water or food. So unless there is a chance that you could come in to close physical contact with an infected patient, don’t let the media hype scare you unnecessarily.”

The Truth About Who REALLY Supports Republicans

My opponent has launched a series of negative and misleading attack ads, alleging that I somehow have supported Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton through a past campaign contribution. Nothing could be further from the truth.

While my opponent talks a big game about supporting fellow conservatives, the simple truth is that only one of us has actually been involved in helping to elect Republicans to office.  Just look at the record:

I am certainly not saying that money is the only way to help good Republican candidates. I absolutely have benefitted from the dozens of volunteers who might not be in a position to contribute, but have helped knock doors, make phone calls or put out signs on my behalf.

I am just trying to show that my opponent’s charges that I am somehow a champion of the left is utterly false and completely absurd. He claims to be a champion of conservative lawmakers. But who is the one putting his money where his mouth is?

(June 29, 2014—Oklahoma City OK) Dr. Ervin Yen is pleased to announce that respected political strategist Neva Hill has joined his team as a campaign consultant.

“Neva is one of the most respected Republican operatives in Oklahoma,” Yen said. “She will be a great asset to our campaign, and I am truly honored to have her as part of our team.”

The owner of Neva Hill and Company, Ms. Hill has been active in Republican politics for more than 30 years. She has been instrumental in electing hundreds of Republican officeholders at the federal, state, county and legislative levels.

“I am thrilled to be a part of the Yen for Senate campaign,” said Ms. Hill. “I believe Dr. Ervin Yen is the kind of conservative leader Oklahoma needs, and I look forward to being a part of helping him get elected.”

Yen is seeking the open Senate District 40 seat, which is currently held by term-limited Senator Cliff Branan. For more information about Dr. Yen and his campaign, visit www.yen4senate.com

Ervin Yen Finishes First In Senate District 40 Republican Primary

(June 25, 2014—Oklahoma City OK)  Local physician Ervin Yen finished first in Tuesday’s Republican primary for the State Senate and will advance to a runoff election.

Yen received 2,742 votes, good for 39.1 percent of the total. He will face Bethany pastor Steve Kern, who received 19.9 percent of the vote, in the August 26th runoff to replace term-‐limited Senator Cliff Branan. In an election night statement, Yen said:

“I am very pleased to have earned the support of so many concerned citizens. We’ve worked hard to share my ideas on how to improve health care and education and bring good jobs to our state.

“I also want to thank each of my opponents in this race. While we may have differences of opinion on some issues, I’m not aware of any negative ads that went out during this campaign. With all the negativity that went on in some of the statewide campaigns, it was refreshing to have a race in which voters actually had a choice of several positive campaigns.

“Tonight was fun, but I know the hard work is just beginning and we have a lot to do between now and August 26th. To all of my supporters, thank you again for your trust. To supporters of other candidates who may be checking out my record and positions for the first time, thank you for your involvement in the process. I look forward to speaking with you soon and I hope to earn your vote in the runoff.”

Ervin Yen, M.D. Announces Candidacy for State Senate

OKLAHOMA CITY (November 19, 2013) – Local physician and community leader Dr. Ervin Yen today announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Oklahoma’s Senate District 40, pledging to provide better health care, quality jobs and strong education for all Oklahomans.

“I have lived in District 40 since 1961,” Yen said. “This is my home—I went to school here, I was married here, I’ve raised my family here, I work here and I worship here. I look forward to representing our district in the State Senate.”

With nearly 30 years of medical practice in Oklahoma City, Dr. Yen is a true conservative who knows all too well the impact of Obamacare on our state’s patients and the health care providers who care for them.

“President Obama’s approach to health care is both frightening and inept,” Yen said. “When I’m elected, I will do everything in my power to enact meaningful health policies that benefit Oklahomans, not the Obamacare bureaucrats who seem bent on forcing Americans into their version of Big Government health care.”

Despite his medical background and strong pro-life beliefs, Yen vows to be more than just “the health care candidate.”

“Our state has one of the strongest economies in the nation,” he said, “but there is still a lot more that we can do. I look forward to promoting policies that will improve our schools and bring more good, high-paying jobs into our state.”

Yen is seeking to replace Republican Senator Cliff Branan, who is term-limited. “Senator Branan has served his district well,” said Yen. “I hope to continue his legacy of representing conservative values at the State Capitol.”

Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1954, Yen and his family immigrated to the United States after the Communist takeover of China. He and his wife, Pam, have been happily married for 27 years. They have five children and are active members of Christ the King Catholic Church. Yen is a past president of the Oklahoma Society of Anesthesiologists and past Chief of the Anesthesiology section at Saint Anthony Hospital. He has served as a member of the University of Oklahoma President’s Associates for 29 years.

Dr. Yen has put together an impressive list of local community leaders who have agreed to serve as his campaign’s steering committee, including:

Jon & Janie Axton

Mike & Pauletta Banowetz

Kenneth & Sarah Barton

Stephanie Bingham

Tony Boghetich

Phil Brown

Sallye Carter

Patricia Darnell

Claude & Patti Drabek

Steve & Holly Duke

Jack & Mary Ann Gilleran

Paul & Kim Graziano

Norman & Bonnie Imes

Kelly McNitt

Dane & Ashton Miller

Steven Mueller

EJ & Alma Natale

Cole & Teri Newby

Chad & Misty Nichols

John Pullen

Kelley Smith

Darrell Suto & Mary Blood-Suto

James R & Susan E Wendelken

“I am extremely grateful for the early support of so many prominent members of our Senate District 40 community,” said Yen. “I look forward to taking my message out to the rest of our citizens and earning their support as well.”
